New Dino Species Found

Say "Hello" to our guest blogger, Pamelia Brown.

I grew up playing with the same dinosaur toys as everyone else, from Tyrannosaurus Rex to Stegosaurus. But it seems there's a new addition to the familiar ranks of dinosaurs.

Paleontologists have discovered a new species of long-necked dinosaur that's closely related to Brachiosaurus, though the new species dates to 45 million years later. Found in the Dinosaur National Monument, the new species is being called Abydosaurus McIntoshi. (wikipedia link for Abydosaurus)

Scientists say the fossil find, which includes two complete skulls from other types of dinosaur, is able to shed new light on the eating habits of sauropods and the evolution of their teeth. Some of the fossils were so firmly set in sandstone it took explosives to loosen the rock and get them out. The bones are temporarily on display at the Museum of Paleontology at Brigham Young University.
